FAQs

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE PHOTOSHOOT?

Anyone you want in the photos is the most important start! But other than that, outfit wise I always recommend deciding on a theme with your family, neutral earthy tones are always best, anything bright is just going to distract from the photograph. Also think about where it's going in your home, if you have a particular placement in mind, wear colours that are going to match in or compliment the colour scheme. White tops with blue bottoms is always a great safe choice.

If you've got kids on the shoot, bring something that will keep them happy and entertained, but be careful not to bring something they'll throw a tantrum letting go of. Last thing you want is your ipad in their hands in all the photos because they won't let go of it without crying. I often use spotify to play a kids favourite song as that can keep them happy and dancing around smiling. Bring them a drink and snacks if needed, but something they aren't going to get in a mess with and they can eat relatively quickly.

If you've got a dog, bring treats to reward! If you've gone to the effort of co-ordinating your outfits, don't forget the dog! A plain collar looks much better in photos than a big chunky harness. You can also bring a toy for the dog if they are good at sitting and waiting for it, I can hold it up by my head to get attention and hopefully get their ears up. However, if your dog is likely to just keep obsessing over it and running up whilst we are trying to get them to sit still, it's probably best to just stick with treats!

WHY DO DIGITALS COST MORE THAN PRINTS?

You would be right in thinking that physically a print costs more than a digital, as it doesn't cost any money at all to email a photo over, but buying the digital is buying the hard file and rights to print. If you purchase a print off of me, and decide you'd like another copy for family, or that you want it made in to a canvas, you'd come back to me and buy another. But with a digital; once you've purchased the file, you have the full flexibility to print it as many time as you like and in whatever format you desire, so you won't need to return to me for more copies

WILL MY PHOTOS BE SHARED?

When booking with Natalie Ayris Photography, you will be given the option to opt out of your photos being shared. As standard, I will share your images, as this helps me to generate more work and I like to take pride in the work that I do. Hopefully you'll also love the images enough to share them yourself!

I'll never sell your images to a third party, I can promise that these are strictly between me and you in that sense, but there may be the occasion that I have the opportunity to submit a photo in to a competition, in which case I will consult you prior

HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP THE PHOTOS?

I'll always keep the photos on file! You never know what happens in life and so I like to prepare for the unexpected! I always like to think that my work can create a smile, even years later, so you'll always be able to contact me to purchase more, or of course if you've purchased digitals and you have a technical glitch and lose them, i'll be able to resend them free of charge! I also know that affordability can sometimes be an issue, so you may love the photos but not be able to pay for all the ones right away, so by keeping them forever this gives you a no pressure opportunity to come back at any time for more!

HOW DOES EDITING WORK?

As standard, I will retouch the images fairly naturally. Usually this includes enhancing of colours to make the images pop, and adding my style to them. I will also remove any pesky spots or blemishes, as there's nothing worse than waking up on the day of a photoshoot with a huge spot on your face! If you have anything in particular you want editing out, please let me know so that I can do this for you when editing.

When you order prints, if there is anything you notice just let me know when you choose your images so that I can edit this out before they go to the printers. If you only notice after the images are printed and with you, there will be a fee for re-printing.

With digitals it is easy for me to retouch again and resend to you, and so I don't charge for this. However please note charges will apply for multiple retouching requests as this takes time.

CAN I GET THE UNEDITED PHOTOS FOR LESS MONEY?

Unfortunately this is not a service that I offer. I take pride in my photography and my work is not complete until I have edited the photo. I want you, and everyone else you share the images with to look at your photos and be wowed. Third parties may look at the unedited work and devalue it because there's crumbs left on someones shirt, or a bit of fluff on the dogs face, so I like to make sure everyone sees the true final product.

CAN I SHARE THE PHOTOS ON MY SOCIAL MEDIA?

Of course you can! I want you to take as much pride in my work as I do and so the more you share the better! Just be sure to tag me so that others can find me! Small businesses like mine wouldn't be anywhere without the love of their customers and so we need you sharing us in order to generate more business!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY PHOTOS TO BE READY?

At the time of your photoshoot I will always tell you an estimated time for you photos to be edited and ready to view. Whilst I aim to have them uploaded within a week, as I only do this part time and have another full time job, there may be times where it can take a little longer, but I'll always be transparent about how long it's likely to take! Once you've ordered and the editing has been approved, digitals can be sent over prominently, whereas prints will be roughly 4 weeks. As i have to order prints and collect them, I like to try and order monthly so that I can do a batch order with multiple clients to be more economic and environmentally friendly. Alternative products like photo albums can take a little longer as there is a lot of design work that needs to be done and printers then generally take a few weeks to produce them.

CAN I SPLIT MY PAYMENTS?

Of course! I understand finance and budgeting can be difficult sometimes and so I like to give you the option to spread payments to make things more affordable. You would need to make the minimum payment of $75 to cover the price of the photoshoot itself up front and then we can discuss a payment schedule that works for you for the photos. Please note that with this option you will not receive the images until full payment has been made.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY KIDS/DOG DON'T BEHAVE ON THE DAY AND WE DON'T GET MANY PHOTOS?

I'll always try my absolute best to get you the photos you want, but I understand that sometimes things don't go according to plan! The shoot fee itself in this instance is non refundable, as I've still met with you and worked my hardest to get the shots, however if you have pre ordered any photo packages then this part of the payment can be refunded.
If you know that someone is ill on the day, or maybe your little one has been throwing a tantrum all day, give me as much notice as you possibly can so that we can look at the option of postponing to another day. As long as I haven't already started travelling for the shoot, you are entitled to 1 reschedule free of charge.

WHY ARE PHOTOGRAPHY PRICES SO HIGH?

Like anything, when you are paying for photography you are paying for a service and everything that goes in to it; from training, experience, equipment, travel, time shooting and editing, quality of images, to the actual cost of the products. Yes, there are some cheaper start out photographers who will offer all their photos digitally for a small price, but it's impossible to run a viable business on this and they are only likely to break even rather than generate an income! I like to think I price my photography reasonable, and like to keep things affordable but also at a level that I can make an income. My prices also reflect the quality of work that I create.

Remember that we all work to make money so that we can pay bills and live life, so we all need to charge enough for whatever job we do.
